The index finger is positioned on the caliper, the thumb and middle and ring fingers on either side of the barrel as if holding a pencil. The index finger is used to control the pressure exerted on the tool while the other fingers are used to rotate the tool to incise the contours of the design.
The ergonomic qualities of the tool make it possible, with a little practice, to make incisions on all types of lines (circles, lines, curves, etc.) in a fluid manner.
